Kate Byerwalter, a Grand Rapids Community College psychology professor, will give a talk entitled, “Do Parents Make a Difference? An Exploration in Raising a Child” Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The free session will be held in the Applied Technology Center room 168.

Byerwalter plans to introduce current research about parenting, the different types of parenting styles,  and exploring how culture may influence parenting.

Additionally Byerwalter will identify the different priorities in parenting and take a closer look at how a parent’s role shapes a child’s cognitive development.

The goal is for the audience to leave with a deeper understanding of how parents play a significant role in the development of children and what practices are connected to the ideal outcome
