Grand Rapids Community College Board Trustee Richard Ryskamp died Tuesday afternoon of cancer.
“Trustee Ryskamp had a passion for GRCC and the students we serve and we are better as an institution for having had him serve on our Board of Trustees,” said Kathy Mullins, Vice President of College Advancement, who worked closely with Ryskamp since he was elected to the board in 2009.
“He encouraged open conversations and caused us all to reflect on things like college values and academic freedom,” Mullins said. “This thought-provoking process solidified our commitment to our academic mission and diversity, for that I am personally grateful.”
The college released word of his death this morning. Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Collegiate will have a full obituary later today.
