The Kent Philharmonic Orchestra is performing a benefit concert Friday in order to raise money for Grand Rapids Community College’s Music Scholarship Fund. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 301 Sheldon Ave SE.
There will be several internationally-acclaimed guests and performers. The concert includes Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante” featuring world-renowned violinist Dylana Jenson and Libor Ondras on viola. The piece is guest conducted by David Lockington of the Grand Rapids Symphony. The Kent Philharmonic will premiere the “Organ Trilogy for Organ and Orchestra”, a piece dedicated to Ondras. The music was written by American composer David Isele, who will be in attendance, with Nick Palmer on organ. The concert will close with a performance of Handel’s “Zadok the Priest” by the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children under the age of 10 are free.
