On Wednesday, April 20 the Grand Rapids Community College Campus Activities Board held the annual Winter Finals Relaxer at the Ford Fieldhouse. Students enjoyed food, games and activities. This fun-filled event allowed for GRCC students to relax by taking a break from studying and taking final exams.
Freshman Allison Teague, 19, of Wayland was excited to see what lied behind the door in the gymnasium.
“I’ve never been to an event here before so I am pretty excited and free food,” Teague said.
Activities included Hungry Hippopotamus, hacky sack, a safari themed photo booth, bubble soccer and an obstacle course. Before the doors opened, students lined up in the halls of the Ford Fieldhouse to see what was inside.
“I am excited about the bounce house and the free food, the t-shirts and the henna (tattoo). I am pretty big into that,” said Ashlinn Vandenvos, 19 of Grant, who is also a first year student. “The petting zoo, I am pretty excited about (too).”
Although this was an event intended for students, CAB joined in on the fun by participating in some of the activities and others helping at various booths.
“I love the engagement piece that comes with the Campus Activities Board because getting involved on campus is what grows the community,” said CAB adviser Kaylee Wolff. “Students who get involved on campus or go to events, that is where they can make friends or find people they can relate with … they are more likely to stay in school and not drop out.”
