Frank Conner, psychology department head at Grand Rapids Community College, will take over as president of the Faculty Association later this month.
Conner has worked at GRCC for 30 years, and is ready to start his new leadership role. At today’s GRCC Board of Trustees meeting he told board members that he has been married for 30 years, and has two college age sons. He attended community college and believes in the importance of its role in the community.
“I believe there is no more noble institution in higher ed than a community college,” Conner told the board during today’s meeting. “We are democracy’s college. We accept all people and provide the opportunity for them to grow and learn while contributing to the vibrancy of their own lives in the community we serve.”
Conner said his first goal this year is to finalize faculty contract negotiations and he looks forward to future collaboration with the board of trustees.
“As president of the faculty association, if I’m not disagreeing with the administration at times, none of us are doing our jobs,” Conner told the board.
Conner will officially replace current Faculty Association President Fred Van Hartesveldt on Aug. 25.
