The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team defeated Glenn Oaks at home in their first scrimmage 94 – 67 under new head coach, Luke Bronkema.
Sophomore guard Jeff Drake-Todd finished with 18 points, including 5 three pointers. Freshman Darron Ewing Jr. finished with 13 points.
“We played hard,” Bronkema said. The guys played with energy and we pushed the ball. We need to improve on our discipline defensively and offensively. We took several quick shots that we won’t want to take moving forward and we gambled quite a bit on defense and gave up some easy shots.”
Bronkema was excited for his first scrimmage. “It was fun,” he said.“I tried not to show exactly how excited I was. I just tried to stay calm and not be over the top for our first scrimmage.”\
Sophomore guard, Fred Mussu thought the team performed well.
“As a new team I feel like we played well. We got some chemistry going and we are trying to put the pieces together as a team,” Mussu said.
Mussu also agreed they need to improve on defense.
“I think we took some plays off. We are going to play better teams and we can’t be doing that.”
Mussu said the team’s goal is to win.
“Definitely to win a conference championship first and we can look forward from that,” he said.
