Netflix now allows downloading everywhere.

Netflix recently announced that in addition to streaming, members can now download shows and movies to watch later. This new feature comes at no extra cost to members.

“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their “Stranger Things” binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited,” stated Eddy Wu, director of product innovation, in a press release.

“This is good for when you are on a road trip and not around wifi. It can be nice to still have entertainment,” said Vi Nguyen, 20, of Grand Rapids. “People could get caught up and it could become a distraction with work or assignments though.”

To download, members will need to be connected to wifi. Next, just click on the series or movie and simply click the download button that is located to the right of the show. Many movies and series are currently available to download, with more becoming available soon.

Some movies available now include:

  • “Orange is The New Black”
  • “Narcos”
  • “Parks and Recreation”
  • “Home”
  • “Stranger Things”

There is also a folder in the genres page of the Netflix app that specifies the movies and shows currently available for download.

Downloading is available via the Netflix app on Android and iOS phones and tablets only. To learn more specifics about enabling this feature, visit the Netflix help center.
