Man found sleeping by north side of ATC building, uncooperative with police

At 10:01 p.m. April 6, two Grand Rapids Community College police officers went to the north side of the Applied Technology Center to check on a man sleeping on the ground.

The officers approached the sleeping man and woke him up to ask him some questions.

When the man awoke, both the officers smelled alcohol on his breath and the man was slurring his words.

When the officers were questioning the man, he was very uncooperative and threatened to take one of the officers’ guns.

He was placed in handcuffs for the rest of the interaction.

He didn’t have any identification on himself, so he told the officers his name and his date of birth.

The GRCC police department did a background check on the man and found him to have no record, or previous encounters with GRCC police.

He was then released from handcuffs and escorted off campus on Barclay Avenue.
