The Fiesta Mexicana, or Mexican Festival, will be held at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16.
Visitors can enjoy Mexico’s rich culture through its food, music, dances and traditions at the festival. Local restaurants and vendors will be showcasing Mexico’s vast variety of foods, toys, clothes, artisan costumes, jewelry and more.
The Mexican Festival is one of Grand Rapids’ oldest ethnic festivals. This year the Mexican Heritage Association, which hosts the event yearly, is celebrating the festival’s 48th anniversary.
“We get to showcase the many subcultures of the Mexican traditions,” said Jorge Gonzalez, Board Chair of the Mexican Heritage Association. “It was important to choose this weekend to hold the festival since September 16 is Mexico’s Independence Day.”
