Grand Rapids Community College’s professor of guitar, Brian Morris, will be performing this Thursday at the GRCC Music Center.
This will be the third concert event of the 2017-2018 International Guitar Series and will be starting at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 25. The performance will be held in the Linn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall, room 200.
As a classical guitarist, Morris, has been a member of the GRCC faculty for 27 years and is the director of the International Guitar Series.
Morris earned his music degrees from Florida State University and Montana State University. He has stayed mostly in the education world, hosting mastering classes and workshops at Mott Community College and Kellogg Community College, as well as nearly three decades of contributions to the GRCC music program.
In addition to passing on his knowledge of music, Morris also utilizes his talents as a classical guitar soloist and a member of the Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet.
In 1985, Morris and Joseph Hoey received third place honors at the annual Guitar Foundation of America’s International Guitar Duo Competition. Morris and Hoey called their classical guitar duo Les Duex Amis, which is French for “Two Friends.” The title Morris and Hoey gave themselves was a testament to the closeness the two shared in their friendship.
Morris is the definition of a music man, having recorded on four CDs compiled of solo guitar work, guitar ensemble, and even some of the songs he’s written himself. Morris also performs at weddings and other special events, and he can even sing.
