Grand Rapids Community College already boasts an impressive repertoire for student/faculty connectivity, yet it is not often we see our professors truly engaging in their craft. Students are invited to join GRCC Music Department professors for this semester’s first Faculty Recital at 3:15 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 6 at the Lynn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall.
The event has been popular in past years, becoming quasi-annual and showcasing the many reasons to study under local talent on campus. Original pieces from instructors along with Bach, Verdi and other classical musicians make up the setlist.
Professor Brian Morris, director of the event, noted a need for early arrival.
“I expect around 100 music students and the hall only holds 140 people,”Morris said. “All faculty was invited, but it is a voluntary event.”
Around 13 instructors will be performing as Morris stated while the 3:15 start time was selected for student ease of already being on campus.
When asked if any performers or pieces were of significant importance, Morris expressed a gleeful excitement in the “fantastic” nature of each piece and the individual voice each musician brings.
All students are invited and encouraged to attend as it is a great way to fully learn what is offered not only in education but experience at GRCC. Admission is free.
