What to stream this winter

Well, winter is here, folks, so what better time to talk about shows to stream on a cold, snowy day. The Collegiate surveyed GRCC students about their favorite streaming services and compiled a list below.

 As far as streaming services go, most of the students we interviewed agreed that Netflix is the most popular. Disney + and Amazon Prime were honorable mentions. 

Favorite shows varied with several mentioning the Netflix series “You” which tells the tale of an obsessive bookstore manager, Joe Goldberg, who comes from a dark past. And once fine arts student Guinevere Beck walks into the bookstore, Goldberg spirals down into a dark abyss of obsession and murder that will end badly for all involved.

Another show often mentioned during the interviews was the Syfy original show on Netflix called “The Magicians” which is about a young graduate student Quentin Coldwater who joins a college for magicians and discovers that magic is real.

Miranda Ellison, a GRCC student, mentioned the show “Dracula” on Netflix which is a three episode retelling of the Dracula story.

Deidre Mitchell, another GRCC student, said that her favorite show to binge watch is “The Last Kingdom,” which is the story of an Anglo Saxon who was raised by the Danes and must choose which side to be on. 

GRCC student Akuen Nyak also recommended the show, “You” but had a surprising answer when asked what her favorite new show is. When asked if it was “You” she had this to say. 

“No, actually the ‘Magicians,’” Nyek said.  

In addition to the shows mentioned, there are also other notable shows new on  the streaming services.

Another show mentioned by students was the “The Vampire Diaries,” which is the tale of Mystic falls Virginia, a small town with a supernatural history. Student Makenzie Heaven likes the show and said, “I just like the action and stuff with it.” 

New releases on Netflix include “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez,” “Family Reunion,” “Die Ontwaking” among many others  

Thomas Tasma also recommended ”The Witcher.” He said, “I like the game and so watching the show just I see several things from it”.

New shows on Amazon Prime include “The Outsider,”  “Troop Zero,” the new season of “Power” and many more.

The highlights of what’s new on Hulu include: “Shrill” season 2, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” season 10, “Lincoln Rhyme:  Hunt for the Bone Collector” and a legion of others. 

A ‘what’s what’ of new releases on Disney + includes Season 3 of Marvel’s “Runaways” and the return of “The World According to Jeff Goldblum” the return of “High School Musical the Musical: The Series” and many more.
