Now that classes are back in session, the main thing students are thinking about is what can I do outside of class this weekend? There’s never a dull weekend in Grand Rapids, but here are some events that won’t break the bank.

The Third Annual World of Winter Festival begins this weekend and includes many events in the coming weeks. Starting on Jan. 17, there will be an interactive light installation coming to Downtown GR that will last until the end of the festival on Feb. 16. The installation is called “Prismatica” and will be located at 555 Monroe Avenue.

Another World of Winter event is a silent disco happening on Jan. 18 starting at 7 p.m. This event is free to everyone, however you do have to be 18+ with a form of ID. Some of the activities include performances by four different DJs, fire performances, and on site food trucks. You can see the full list of activities here. This event will be taking place at 555 Monroe Avenue, and will be outside, so dress appropriately for the weather.

Another couple of events that are free for Grand Rapids students are the Grand Rapids Community College basketball games happening this weekend on campus. The men’s and women’s basketball games will both be taking place this Saturday at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. Tip off for the women’s game is at 1 p.m and the men’s game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

If you’re looking to see some live music this weekend, Sublime with Rome will be performing at 20 Monroe Live on Jan. 19. Tickets are $32.50 for general admission and the event is all ages. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Grand Rapids Symphony is hosting three separate shows this weekend, performing Hollywood hits. With your Raider Card you can get into the symphony for $5, otherwise ticket prices range from $18 to $90 depending on where you sit. You can get tickets here. All of the shows start at 7:30 p.m at the DeVos Performance Hall.

For those who are 21+, on Jan. 18, there’s a onesie bar crawl. Tickets are $25, but it does include drink vouchers as well as free entry to all of the bars participating, you can purchase tickets here. Participants also have the chance to win the $500 photo contest, so get your best onesies. The bars included in the crawl are the Tin Can, Flanagans, Grand Woods Lounge, as well as The B.O.B. You can see all of the drink specials and  full list of participating bars here.
