There is never a dull moment in Grand Rapids, and this weekend proves no different from the rest. There are a bunch of events to go to this weekend, like hockey games, celebrations, and free food.

On Friday, Jan. 24, the Grand Rapids Griffins are hosting a game at the Van Andel Arena against the San Diego Gulls, at 7p.m. It is college night so there will be $2 beers and $2 hot dogs. Ticket costs vary, but the lowest start at $19. You can purchase tickets here.

Celebrations for the Lunar New Year are taking place at 555 Monroe Ave. Saturday, Jan. 25. This will be a showcase of Asian cultures, based around the Lunar calendar. This year is the Year of the Rat and the beginning of a new zodiac cycle for the Lunar calendar. This will be taking place from 5-9 p.m and is free to the public. There will not only be food, but also live performances and the chance to win prizes. You can see more about this event on their event page here.

HopCat is hosting their 12th annual anniversary party and cosmik fries eating contest on Saturday, Jan. 25. They will be serving free cosmik fries to everyone from 11 a.m- 5 p.m., with a fry-eating contest scheduled for 3 p.m. If you win, you’ll get a $500 HopCat gift card, as well as HopCat swag. The winner will be whoever can eat the most weight of fries in six minutes. For more rules regarding the contest or information about the event you can go to their event page here.
