Jamie Miller – 2:05 a.m.
Good evening Night Lighters it is I, “jolly jabbering” Jamie Miller here to save you from boredom, with another issue of Night Light. Now, in order to explain the theme of this article, I must first lay on a little exposition. The other night I was watching “Supergirl,” in which one of the main characters is played by Chyler Leigh. I was curious about what else she has been in, and in the process of web surfing, I found something interesting. All the way back in 2002 Leigh was in the music video for Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Tainted Love.” That made me think, what other actors were in music videos people don’t remember or never heard of? So please my friends, read on.
Jeremy Renner, many of you most likely know him as Hawkeye from the Avengers movies, but did you know all the way back in 2003 he played the sheriff in the music video for P!nk’s “Trouble?” From playing a Deadeye to being Hawkeye. Quite the evolution.
Aerosmith, I’m sure many of you know of them (I hope). They are most likely one of your parents’ if not your favorite bands, but did you know the music video for “Crazy” featured cameos from Alica Silverstone and a young actress just starting out by the name of Liv Tyler? Silverstone had roles in numerous ‘90s and 2000s movies such as “Clueless.” And Tyler is now known for her iconic roles in such movies as the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “The Strangers,” and “Super.” For the music video, Silverstone and Tyler play young school girls who go on a series of misadventures including an amaetur pole dancing competition and skinny dipping. It is an Aerosmith music video after all.
You could argue that Robert Downey Jr. is one of the greatest actors of our time. From “Sherlock Holmes,” to “Iron Man” and the Avengers movies, his roles as of late have been legendary. However, all of these roles almost didn’t happen until 2001. Downey had been on a vicious fall from grace, he was speeding down a drug fueled road of self destruction as in Downey’s own words: “It’s like I’ve got a shotgun in my mouth, with my finger on the trigger, and I like the taste of the gun metal.” Yet like the legendary phoenix he rose from the ashes of his tainted career and forged an even brighter one. Do you know what his first role on his ascension from his inner demons was? It was the music video for Elton John’s “I Want Love.” The music video itself is simple, around five minutes of Downey lip syncing. It represents the beginning of his comeback, which is truly spectacular.
Even great actors and actresses have to start somewhere, or sometimes have to start low to rise to even greater heights. You just have to want it… stay hungry my friends.
