GRCC’s Sneden shuttle not run in the fall, changes to parking payment in lieu of that

Grand Rapids Community College administrators announced that they will be changing the system in place for on-campus parking fees to save students money.

With the use of a RaiderCard, students can swipe it once to pay the $3.50 fee and then have access to any lot on the Main and DeVos Campuses without paying an additional fee for that day. Previously, every time students entered a new lot they needed to pay $3.50 for entry.

This move is an effort to minimize costs incurred for students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic which has caused financial strain for many. The college previously announced that they waived course fees for any distance-learning courses for the 2020-2021 academic year. This saves students $16 per contact hour house, or approximately $50 per three-credit class.

Due to concerns over “student safety, with social distancing a challenge on the buses,” the college is “suspending the Sneden shuttle bus service for the fall semester,” a release states.

“This is one more step GRCC is taking to reduce costs for students, making an education more affordable and accessible,” Lisa Freiburger, GRCC vice president for Finance and Administration, stated. “We don’t want parking costs to be a factor in a student’s decision to take a class or access programs.”

  1. For those who do not drive to campus and they would need to get back and forth between the main campus and the Devos campus, does this mean that they have to walk both ways?
