Mid past Midnight Munchies: The Nightlighter diet

Hello again Nightlighters, it’s me, “the self-styled, ingenious insomniac” Jamie Miller. Now as you can tell from the column header on every issue of Night Light (by the way, thank you for that, Abby Haywood),  the artwork shows a can of Dr Pepper on my desk, my favorite writing beverage. However, what you may not know is that I often eat snacks as well. But of course I wouldn’t be Jamie Miller if I just had string cheese or something, where would be the fun in that? No, no, I put a personal spin on my snacks. So just sit back, grab a snack, and don’t worry I won’t be talking smack. 

I will start with a simple snack, Ice Man Milanos. This is a very simple snack to make and I’m pretty sure many others before me have done it but it’s still good – and easy to do. All that’s needed is some Milano cookies and a fridge- I use the mini fridge I have in my basement, which gets very cold. I put them in there for a few days, and sometimes when I’m feeling adventurous I dip them in chocolate syrup. Trust me it’s good.

Another snack I’ll sometimes do is a little something I call the “Clay Hall special.” I named it in honor of my friend who I imagined would absolutely love the snack when I thought of it. It’s basically just a modified root beer float, but I swap in cream soda as I do not really care for root beer. IBC brand works pretty well with vanilla ice cream. 

And of course how could I do a Night Light like this without mentioning a little concoction I call a “three-way dance.” The name is a reference to pro wrestling. Although I suppose ”diabetes in a bowl” is just as valid a name. It’s probably the most filling and unhealthy snack on this list… which is why I love it! To make it you use three scoops of chocolate ice cream, three scoops of vanilla ice cream, and three scoops of another flavor. I usually use either SuperScoop or Traverse City Cherry Fudge. Of course you can do whatever flavors or portions you want. Those are just the ones I use.
