Hello Night Lighters, it’s me Jamie “Sundown” Miller. It is with a heavy heart that I write this afternoon’s issue of Night Light. Hollywood lost one of its most talented actors and Wakanda lost its king, as actor Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43.
Boseman, who got his start as a guest star in the TV show “Third Watch,” is best known for his role as the superhero Black Panther in numerous Marvel movies. He also starred in the movie “21 Bridges” and had roles in “Gods of Egypt,” “Get on Up,” and “Draft Day.” Boseman’s breakout role was in 2013 in the film “42” playing the iconic baseball player Jackie Robinson.
In the months before his death, Boseman married longtime partner, Taylor Simone Ledward. Boseman died in his home with his wife and his family by his side on Aug. 28 according to a post made on his Twitter.
Former co-stars have been posting their condolences on their social media pages. Mark Ruffalo tweeted “All I have to say is the tragedies amassing this year have only been made more profound by the loss of #ChadwickBoseman. What a man, and what an immense talent. Brother, you were one of the all-time greats and your greatness was only beginning. Lord love ya. Rest in power, King.”
Boseman, who had been battling Colon cancer for four years, never let on to the general population that he was sick, even visiting cancer patients. He fought long and hard like the hero he played but alas he lost that fight.
Many are sharing fond memories of Boseman’s work and characters. In the words of T’Challa, Boseman’s character in “Captain America: Civil War,” “In my culture, death is not the end. It’s more of a stepping off point. You reach out with both hands and Bast and Sekhmet, they lead you into a green veld where you can run forever.”
