Last Thursday afternoon, Student Alliance hosted a virtual town hall meeting to discuss the upcoming Leadership Banquet as well as updates from Grand Rapids Community College’s student organizations.

The meeting began with a few, fun conversation-starting questions, including what everyone’s favorite hobbies were, which prompted the announcement that GRCC’s Garden Club will be in full swing this spring. The information to sign up for Garden Club can be found on Raider Connect.

Following the ice breaker questions, members from each student organization talked about what they are currently working on, with this year’s Leadership Banquet being the center of the conversation.

The theme of this year’s banquet is “New Beginnings.” It will be held on March 26 and the time is still to be determined. It will be a virtual banquet and is open to all students, especially those involved in a student organization.

Inayah Hakeem, President of Student Alliance, discussed what the structure of the event is going to look like. She explained that they are working on getting a GRCC alum to speak at the event, specifically on the theme of the event, and to “spread some light and some hope.”

Student Alliance and Campus Activities Board are creating a video for the banquet and are asking students and faculty to contribute. They are in need of COVID-19 related pictures of GRCC’s campus, as well as photos of students and faculty, so they can put together a slideshow that encompasses what has happened in the past year and how COVID-19 has impacted our campus. If you are interested in sharing some photos, you can email them to Sherry Sokolowski, CAB’s Vice President of Special Events, at sherrysokolowski@grcc.edu or Nio Walton, Operations Director of Student Alliance, at niowalton@email.grcc.edu.
