During the Monday, May 17, Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees meeting Chairperson Dave Koetje announced that Kathy Crosby was stepping down from her duties to focus on health concerns.
“My decision to serve was not lightly made, and it is therefore hard to step away from,” Crosby wrote in a letter to the board, which Koetje shared at Monday’s meeting. “However, life and health situations change. Often, they can be unpredictable. In this case, those changes have pushed me to reprioritize time. Going forward, it must belong to my family.”
Crosby’s resignation will take effect on May 21, 2021, with the board being allowed 30 days to fill the opening, from that date. However, because Crosby, elected in 2018, held the position of vice-chair, the board moved to reassign her role to another trustee, in the same meeting her departure was announced.
Trustee Kenyatta Brame was chosen as the new vice-chair. Brame, elected in 2016, was serving as the treasurer, creating another vacancy in the leadership hierarchy of the GRCC Board of Trustees. Trustee Sheryl Siegel, elected in 2018, was appointed to the role of treasurer.
Once both positions were voted on by the board, it was announced that they would be taking applications to fill the seat left open by Crosby’s departure. To be considered for the position, applicants must be a resident of the GRCC district and a registered voter.
The board will announce the appointment during their June 21 meeting. For more information on the position, read the notice here.
