The Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team continued their dominance when they defeated Lansing Community College in three-straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 27-25) on Tuesday, Sept. 28 to remain undefeated in the conference.

As the Raiders have extended their win streak, they are now the No. 10 ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings.

“We have worked really hard this season to stay undefeated and get to where we (want) to go at the end of the season,”  said sophomore Annie Holesinger. “We have all worked so hard this season and it’s really showing.”

The Raiders were led by Holesinger (16 kills, two blocks, two aces), who was just announced as Michigan Community College Athletic Association player of the week for the second time this season.

“I wouldn’t be the player I am right now without my teammates and coaches pushing me (along) the way,” Holesinger said. “Shannon Russell and I have a great connection and it just works.”

The Raiders also saw a big contribution from sophomore Kylie Oberlin who beat her season high in kills with 14 along with three blocks.

Along with Oberlin and Holesinger, the Raiders win was also aided by freshman Audrey Torres who had eight kills, three blocks, and one ace, redshirt-freshman Kara Hecht (seven kills and one block), and freshman Shannon Russell (41 assists and six digs).

The Raiders will look to continue the win streak into this weekend’s Raider Challenge when they have a rematch against fifth-ranked Terra State Community College at the Gordon Hunsberger Arena on Saturday, Oct. 2, starting at 2 p.m. GRCC will finish the Challenge on Sunday, Oct. 3 when they face off against Oakland Community College starting at 10 a.m. followed by a match against Macomb Community College starting at 2 p.m.

“We feel really good going into it,” Holesinger said. “We play some top ten teams so it will be interesting to see how we step up to the challenge.”
