Grand Rapids Community College has phased out the MyDegree Path academic tracking service and replaced it with a new one aimed to make planning easier for students.
The previous service, which was phased out as of Aug. 30, was replaced by the Academic Progress tile that is located on the Online Center. It will serve the same function as MyDegree Path, but it is intended to make academic progress navigation easier. This service gives students a real-time summary of where they stand in their academic progress, the remaining credits needed, current GPA, and so forth.
Student Records and Veterans Services registrar Valerie Butterfield said GRCC administrators hope this will provide a simpler, more efficient service to students.
“Our hope is yes, there will be some improvements,” Butterfield said. “We just rolled it out on Monday and it is a real-time report where a student stands on their progress and their credits they have completed.”
“(MyDegree Path) was a good product but we had to run a process to refresh it which created real-time delays. This new tool will always be an updated reflection of academic progress that is automatically updated. We are going to continue to support it and grow it, as well as be extremely receptive to student feedback on how we can improve it,” she said.
After logging into the Online Center, students should see a tile labeled “Academic Progress” with a circle indicating the completion percentage. From there, students will be able to access their information relating to previous courses taken or attempted, a list of degree requirements, and course requirement alerts.
The Student Records office is highly encouraging students to submit feedback or request information in order to help improve the service. Students can locate the “Request Info/Contact Us” form at the very bottom of the Student Records webpage.
