With Halloween right around the corner, Beauty by Drag Productions is pairing up with Harmony Hall to host an event Saturday, Oct. 23 to celebrate the holidays as well as raise awareness for a nonprofit organization West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT). Aside from helping a cause, there will be a costume contest, so pull out the exotic outfits and face paint and bring forth the spooky season spirit.
What better way to celebrate the thrilling holiday of Halloween than by being able to express oneself creatively and help a great cause at the same time. WMCAT is an organization in Grand Rapids that benefits the community by offering aid to children with an active interest in expressing their creativity through after school activities. This organization runs from September to May (duration of the whole school year) and is tuition free, which allows all kids enrolled in Grand Rapids Public Schools to participate. This program gives kids the opportunity to channel their creative interests through the guidance of this not-for-profit organization. In addition, they also offer summer camp programs.
This event offers an exotic and fun style of performance: the art of drag. Combined with the Halloween theme, this event presents the freedom for one to express themselves in their own unique way. Costumes of all shapes, colors, sizes, and magnitude are welcome to join in the festivities and help a cause that supports the city of Grand Rapids community. To be in the draw for the best costume competition, all it takes is the purchase of a ticket.
This event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Harmony Hall, 401 Stocking Ave. NW in Grand Rapids. The event will be from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online.
