On Tuesday, Nov. 16 the Grand Rapids Community College Student Life Center will organize a blood drive in partnership with Versiti, a blood donation center in Michigan.

“We are looking for as much support in this as possible,” said Student Life and Conduct Assistant Director Ashley Fox.

Fox states that blood drives are “critical to supporting our community,” as the national blood shortage continues to leave hospitals strapped for resources during emergency blood transfusions and other medical procedures. Blood donation centers like Versiti continue to assist in the efforts to bridge the gap of the blood shortage and available resources in hospitals.

For those interested in donating, it is not only recommended, but important to show up to the blood drive fully rested, having proper meals and making sure to stay hydrated leading up to the donation. Those who do not follow these guidelines will be at a higher risk of not being able to donate blood.

The blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the multi-purpose room located on the second floor of the Student Life Center. No appointment is necessary.
