With the entertainment provided from the competitive side of games to content creation from these games, esports is becoming one of the biggest growing industries in the world. The Grand Rapids Community College gaming club can be a step in the right direction to get students involved in esports.

Raider Nation Gaming club is advised by Celina Flegal and Francisco Ramierez, who provided more information about the club and how to get involved.

“This is a student-developed and student-led club/organization,”Ramirez said. “Since the beginning of this group, late in 2019, the idea was that this group would also start researching what an esport program at GRCC could look like.”

“Students can join the club via Raider Connect,” he said. “You can use your MyGRCC account to log into Raider Connect and join any active club.”

“The Raider Nation Gaming club likes to game together on and off campus,” Ramierez said. “It offers students an opportunity to connect with other students who love gaming and other forms of entertainment.”

Flegal also gave some great advice for people who want to get involved in esports at the collegiate level.

“Recruiters from other colleges visit GRCC on a regular basis,” Flegal said. “We have had recruiters from Davenport’s esports team schedule times to be on campus and chat with students and answer any questions they have about their program. So we would encourage students to make sure to attend those meetings if they are interested in transferring to a college with an esports team!”

If you have any questions and want to get involved in the Raider Nation Gaming club, you can contact both Celina Flegal and Francisco Ramierez for more information.
