The Grand Rapids Community College Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) Winter 2022 Diversity Lecture Series begins Monday, Jan. 31 with Nikole Hannah-Jones covering “Crossroads: Academic Freedom and the Ivory Tower.”

ODEI’s list of guest speakers dives into difficult, and sometimes controversial topics in the fields of academics, race, sexuality, and politics.

The Diversity Lecture Series, now in its 27th year, has a storied legacy of inviting thought leaders, scholars, artists, and community-centered activists to the college and West Michigan region,” said ODEI’s Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer, B Afeni McNeely Cobham. “The speakers for the 2021-2022 cycle are preeminent in their contributions to topics that are difficult to discuss but necessary.”

The lineup for Winter 2022 includes author Nikole Hannah-Jones and rapper Talib Kweli.

Information about the other speakers for Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and the Cultural Competence Institute are available on the Eventbrite page for the ODEI.
