Student Alliance is celebrating Homecoming Week for Grand Rapids Community College students starting Friday, Feb. 11. The week will be filled with various events on campus and online, and all students are welcome to attend.
The week kicks off with an All Day Spirit day, with students being asked to take photos of themselves wearing GRCC merch showing their Raider pride. Students can enter these photos on the GRCC Homecoming page to win the Spirit Award.
There will be a brief recess over the weekend as no new event is planned until the following Monday, Feb. 15.
GRCC’s Student Alliance President Brendan Burke, 23, of Rockford, highlighted a new part of Homecoming Week.
“They have a new award called the Young Alumni Award,” Burke said.
Find information on the Young Alumni award on the award’s page on the GRCC website. The winner will be announced at 2 p.m on Feb. 14 at the online student mixer hosted over on Remo. You can sign up on the event site or here.
Burke gave The Collegiate the scoop on some other activities on the week’s agenda.
“We’ll be passing out breakfast on the 15th at the 4th floor of RJF,” Burke said.
Student Alliance leaders will all be present, along with GRCC President Bill Pink at 9 a.m to help divvy out the breakfast. Later that day an address from LaTosha Brown on Black History Month will be held online at 6 p.m. Please sign-up in advance here.
Employees may come and grab some warm soup with class friends Wednesday and Thursday. Soup will be available at either the Main or DeVos campuses Wednesday, and the Tassell M-TEC building on Thursday from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. A bingo night will be held on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m to 7 p.m.
Circling back around, there will be another Spirit Day on Friday Feb. 18 along with announcements of all of the other spirit week awards. At 5 p.m, GRCC students and faculty are invited to attend ice skating at Griff’s Icehouse.
The week wraps up on Saturday with the basketball games against Kalamazoo Valley Community College. The men’s game will start at 1 p.m, followed by the women’s game at 3 p.m. The games will be viewable via livestream on the GRCC Athletics YouTube channel.
