The life of a college student can be erratic and stressful. With many things on your plate, it’s always best to make time for yourself. There are plenty of ways to go about this, such as listening to music, drawing, writing, and hanging out with friends, but one of the most recommended ways to relieve stress in your life is to exercise.
The Grand Rapids Community College Ford Fieldhouse, located across the street from the student center, has created that option for students, as they have a facility for students to use for free on campus. The state of the art facility features a large free-weight room, indoor track, mechanized weight room, and an indoor pool. The facility’s hours are 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Fridays.
Marsh, who has worked for GRCC for three years, has stressed the importance of still being cautious during the pandemic, encouraging students to still social distance and to clean their machines before and after they work out.
“We ask them to do this just in case if someone before them forgot to clean them and to remember to clean after they’re done for a safe environment,” Marsh said.
The Ford Fieldhouse is an option for many who wish to push for a goal that doesn’t involve academics, with the pandemic still ongoing, the foot traffic at the Fieldhouse has been low. The hope for many is that when more students take classes on campus that the Fieldhouse will gain more participants and be a representation of when times were more normal.
“The GRCC Ford Fieldhouse is such a good place for me to go to relieve my stress from my classes. When I am there I like to go on the treadmill and work on upper body and lower body movement to improve my overall strength,” said Emily Hazzard, GRCC student, 19.
GRCC uses the college social media channels to post updates about the Ford Fieldhouse and its fitness center. The updates come through email and social media. That would be the best place to find all the information you need.
