Stuart Blacklaw, one of three finalists for the presidency at Grand Rapids Community College,  withdrew from the presidential search according to a Nov. 9 update posted on GRCC’s daily employee newsletter

Blacklaw, who visited GRCC for public interviews on Oct. 18, is currently wrapping up the semester as provost and executive vice president at Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh before he is scheduled to accept an early retirement option. During the 2001-2002 academic year, he served as assistant dean in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at GRCC.

“I respect Dr. Blacklaw’s decision to head in another direction,” stated David Koetje, chairperson of the GRCC Board of Trustees. “We will continue to move forward with our search and toward a potential selection on Nov. 21.”

Blacklaw couldn’t be reached for comment on Nov. 9.

Now that Blacklaw is out of the search, only two finalists, Charles Lepper and Timothy Casper, remain in the running to be GRCC’s next president.
