Matthew Cochran to perform as part of International Guitar Series.

By Abby Kozal

Guitarist and composer Matthew Cochran will be performing a solo guitar concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Grand Rapids Community College as part of the college’s International Guitar Series.

Cochran, who performs a variety of music, will be performing both existing works and compositions of his own during the concert. Classical Guitar Magazine has recognized him for his “strong, nuanced, textured performance and beautiful sound.” Cochran has traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada, performing in many concert series and orchestras.

GRCC’s IGS has brought a range of guitarists to perform at campus for over 20 years.

“The main focus of the IGS is to give our local community, GRCC faculty, students and staff a chance to see professional guitar concerts for a nominal cost,” said Jonathan Marshall, Director of Guitar Studies at GRCC.

Marshall will be performing in the next installment of the series with guitarist Brian Morris.

Cochran will be performing at the Linn Maxwell Keller Recital Hall in room 200 of the Albert P. Smith Music Center. Tickets for all GRCC Music events are available at this link. Tickets to Cochran’s concert are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and veterans.
