Five GRCC men’s basketball players awarded postseason honors

After finishing 21-8 on the season and a 9-5 conference record, the Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team had five players receive all-conference honors. The all-conference awards are for the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference. 

Sophomore point guard Danyel Bibbs was named to the second team all-conference team for the MCCAA Northern Conference. Bibbs averaged 16.7 points per game (PPG), a league-leading six assists per game (APG), five rebounds per game (RPG), and 1.37 steals per game (SPG). Bibbs led the team in PPG and APG while being a defensive anchor for the Raiders.

Sophomore guard Rico Wade received a spot on the MCCAA Northern Conference All-Defensive team, as Wade made life miserable for opposing offensive players. Wade averaged just under one SPG, but he played an average of 19.4 MPG while starting 22 out of the 27 games he played in.

Three other Raiders were named to the MCCAA Northern Conference Honorable Mention, including sophomore forward Brockton Kohler, sophomore guard Chris Coleman, and freshman guard Bashir Neely. 

Kohler averaged 12.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.4 APG while shooting 43.9% from the field and 38.4% from the three. In his third and final year for the Raiders, Kohler started 21 out of the 25 games while being a leader and mentor to the younger players.

Next up, Coleman averaged 9.7 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.6 APG, and one SPG, in his first season with the Raiders. He started 12 out of the 20 games this season, and was an offensive threat at all times while being able  to play multiple positions.

Lastly, Neely averaged 9.9 PPG, 3.2 RPG, and 2.5 APG while shooting 44% from the field in his freshman season. Neely played in 22 games, in which he started three due to the early season suspension incident, while consistently being a spark off the bench throughout the season.
