GRCC women’s basketball players receive postseason honors

The Grand Rapids Community College Women’s basketball team has announced that seven players have received postseason honors. This came as the team finished the season with a winning record of 19-8 and a conference record of 10-4, while also winning the Great Lakes B tournament championship and having a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament.

Grace Lodes, a sophomore forward, was named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring the paint averaging 2.6 blocks and 2.1 steals a game. Lodes also averaged a double-double with 14.1 points and 10.8 rebounds a game.

Sally Merrill, a sophomore forward, who is sixth in the region in scoring, averaging 17.3 points a game, was named to the MCCAA First Team All-Northern Conference and to MCCAA All-Region Women’s Basketball team along with Lodes being named as well.

Marlene Bussler, a sophomore guard, was named to the MCCAA Northern Conference All-Defensive Team, snatching 42 steals and averaging 1.6 steals a game. Allison Kellogg, a sophomore forward, Alyssa Katerburg, a sophomore forward, and Emersyn Koepke, a sophomore guard, were all named to the MCCAA Northern Conference Honorable Mention All-Conference for their contributions.
