Sitting at about 37 minutes with 14 tracks, Chlöe truly shows us the different stages of heartbreak and how to navigate through it on “In Pieces.”

Being one half of the famous sister duo Chloe x Halle, the protégé of Beyoncé, and having this be her debut album, you can say the stakes and expectations for this project were very high.

She started with the release of her lead single “Pray it Away”, a ballad about wanting to hurt your ex as bad as they hurt you, but you just have to let the situation and that person go before you end up doing something you regret.

She followed this with her second single from the album, “How Does it Feel” with a feature from Chris Brown. While met with some criticism because of her feature choice, the song was a solid choice for a second single.

She then followed it with the third and final single with the title track “In Pieces.” A piano ballad that really showcases a lot of emotion and pulls on the emotional strings.

Chlöe also wrote and produced the majority of her album minus two songs. She has a total of three features on this album, Chris Brown, Missy Elliott and Future. Missy is on the track titled “Told Ya” which is one of my favorite songs and Future is on the track titled “Cheatback”.

In the midst of her dropping her debut album, she also announced that she would be headlining her own tour weeks after the album was released. She started her tour in Chicago on April 11 with a sold out show. Followed by a show in Detroit, which I had the pleasure of attending. She performed all of her songs, ones from the album and previous single releases. She really is an all around amazing performer. I think she sounds better live than on her records and that says a lot. She had such great energy and she was very interactive with the crowd. She didn’t do much choreography, which I kind of expected, but she still did her thing. So I would highly recommend seeing her perform live if you ever have the chance.

Personally, I’m a fan of the entire project. I’ve been waiting on her debut album for three years so now that it’s finally here, I’m in love with it. It definitely exceeded my expectations. A couple of my favorite songs off of this project are “Told Ya,” “Feel me Cry,” “In Pieces” and “Body Do.” I give this album a solid 9/10 because there’s always room for improvement. So if you’re a fan of R&B and pop, or you just so happen to be going through a really tough breakup and need guidance, I would give this album a listen.
