The Grand Rapids Community College President, Charles Lepper, made a guest appearance on the mound at the Whitecaps game at LMCU Ballpark by throwing the first pitch on Wednesday, August 16.

“I did a little bit of practicing in the Ford Fieldhouse on Monday but there were many sleepless nights prior to the pitch,” Lepper said. “ I would say I’m relieved to be done.”

Along with Lepper throwing out the first pitch, GRCC had multiple tables that included sharing program and scholarship information, celebrating alumni, and helping with last-minute enrollments.

“An event like this helps us be a part of the community while getting the support from the alums as over 100 are over attendance,” Lepper said. “It’s great to be out in the community and have GRCC celebrate it.”

Some programs that were covered by the staff on concourse were GRCC scholarships, Michigan Reconnect Program, Michigan Achievement Scholarship and Grand Rapids Promise Zone.

The Whitecaps had a season-high 8,319 fans in attendance in their comeback win against the South Bend Cubs 4-3. The Whitecaps have won 15 out of their last 17 games and sit 1.5 games ahead of multiple teams on top of the Midwest League East division.
