As students flooded back to Grand Rapids Community College on Jan. 8 for the first day of the spring semester, many students were faced with roadblocks when driving into campus from Lyon Street.
This is due to the construction of the Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health) parking ramp on the northeast side of Lyon between Barclay Avenue and Ransom Avenue. Enrollment Management Communication & Data Coordinator Ryan Nausieda sent an email out to students at 1:06 p.m. stating that Consumers Energy has closed Lyon Street entirely to through traffic near the preschool building.
The intersection at Lyon and Ransom is also closed to any westbound traffic but the Ramp A entrance is still open to the public.
This closure is scheduled until Feb. 9 and traffic will be redirected to Lafayette Avenue.
