The Kent Philharmonic Orchestra is performing an extra chamber concert on Friday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. Students were able to sign up to join small groups that would perform pieces of chamber music.
The concert is made up of many different groups from the Kent Philharmonic Orchestra. Each group ranges anywhere from four to 16.
“This is a concert under the suspense of the Kent Philharmonic Orchestra but the concert itself features small groups from that orchestra,” Ondras said. “…so it’s a variety of pieces for a smaller ensemble.”
Members of various groups will be taking turns on stage to play their music sets.
Ondras says the small groups have been working on their performances for a couple of months now.
Ondras is extremely excited that the musicians performing at this concert volunteered and weren’t forced by their class assignments to do this.
“I’m excited that nobody asked our musicians to do this extra concert. It’s not part of the assignment or curriculum, it just demonstrates how the people that come and join the orchestra for their passion of music always look for outlets to reach out to each other and to other communities,” Ondras said.
Ondras also goes on to talk about the wonderful opportunity for the audience to experience the passion of the musicians.
”It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to experience the passion that these people have for making music and be exposed to a different genre that, you know, is normally not presented by symphonic orchestras… This is a very intimate genre, very intimate performance, performance that explores different qualities, colors that come from these combinations of instruments,” said Ondras.
Admission is free to all potential audience members. Tickets are available on Ludus and Raider Connect. This is going to be held at the Linn Maxwell Recital Hall in the Albert P. Smith Music Center.
