Update: Classes in Cook Hall, RJF Hall, Learning Resource Center, and Music Hall were canceled for the rest of the evening due to the power outage.

On Thursday, April 18, at approximately 11:36 a.m., Grand Rapids Community College’s Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, Peter & Pat Cook Academic Hall and Parking Ramp A lost power. Elevators and entrances to RJF and Cook were shut down, limiting access to the buildings, students were also temporarily unable to enter or exit Ramp A before police were able to open access.

Interim Vice President of College Advancement and Executive Director of the GRCC Foundation Erin Van Egmond stated that the college hasn’t found the cause of this blackout.

“We are still working on the result of it, which buildings it impacted,” Egmond said. “When we do have something to share, we will share that with the campus community.”

Many classrooms lost power in the halls, interrupting classes.

The Collegiate will continue to update as we learn more.
