GRCC Police respond to vandalism and hit and run

Concrete pillar vandalized at parking ramp

On Wednesday, July 17, at around 6:16 a.m. Grand Rapids Community College police received a report of some graffiti in GRCC parking Ramp A at Bostwick Avenue on level three. Upon arriving the officer met with GRCC employees who were standing next to the vandalized pillar, which had a white arrow with a black outline that had been spray painted on. The officer noted that the graffiti had been there for months and there were no previous reports of the graffiti.

GRCC information sign vandalized 

On Wednesday, July 17, at around 7:22 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the parking area of the GRCC Applied Technology Center. Upon arriving the officer spoke to a GRCC employee who pointed to an information sign which gave directions to both parking and various buildings on the GRCC campus. Between the listings for Ferris State University and Fountain Hill Brewery, someone had written “B damn Fool” in black marker. The employee stated he didn’t remember seeing graffiti yesterday afternoon when he was driving around campus.

Hit and run at Godfrey Avenue 

On Wednesday, July 17, at around 7:29 a.m. an officer responded to the GRCC Leslie E. Tassel MTec building at 622 Godfrey Ave on a report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim who was standing next to his mother’s 2014 silver Chevrolet Malibu, when asked where the damage was he showed the officer the very front lower driver’s side quarter panel, just in front of the tire. By looking at it, the officer saw what appeared to be either black paint transfer or possibly black rim scuff. The student said he was in class the previous day from 12 p.m to 4 p.m. and the damage wasn’t there when he parked the car but it was there when he came back. When asked if there were any vehicles parked near him when he left class he said that there were not.

Vandalism at Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall

On Friday, July 19, at 1:39 p.m. an officer was patrolling GRCC campus when he noticed new graffiti on the RJF bullying. He was driving southbound on Winchester Alley approaching Fountain Street when he noticed the graffiti, said the graffiti was on a metal vent near the receiving sign, was black and color and stated a homophobic slur with two pentagrams. When patrolling the previous day from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. the officer did not notice any graffiti.
