The Grand Rapids Community College women’s soccer team came short of a victory in a 2-5 loss to St. Clair County Community College but quickly regained it with a 4-2 win versus Lawrence Tech Junior Varsity team. The team played home games on Oct. 8 and 10, scoring six goals across both matches making their season record now 5-7-1.
Versus St. Clair County Community College
The women’s team had a rough start against the Skippers. The Raiders didn’t get the win they wanted against St. Clair County, but they still put up a fight scoring two goals. The first goal scored was a solo goal by sophomore midfielder Alexandria Ellsworth at the 43rd minute mark. She also followed up with an assist just three minutes later for sophomore forward Ava Simonson. The Raiders also left the match with the most saves of the game which was five.
Versus Lawrence Tech JV Team
The Raiders were able to get back on their winning streak against Lawrence Tech on Oct 10. The team scored four goals, all coming from different players.. Simonson assisted the first goal of the match by sophomore forward Allyson Seevers only five minutes into the match. Simonson then scored a brace that put the Raiders into the lead with two goals at the 8th and 87th minute mark. One of them being another duo from Seevers and the last one being assisted by sophomore midfielder Samantha Hunting. Additionally, there was another outstanding solo goal from Alexandria Ellsworth. This game led to the Raiders having the most on target shots of the game which was 19 shots.
Head coach Jason Hill could not be reached for comment.
With only three more matches in the season, the Raiders are looking forward to facing Delta College for an away match in University Center at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.
