Grand Rapids Community College’s Spectrum Theater is holding auditions Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10 for the play “John Proctor is the Villain.” These auditions will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room 211.
The play is an interesting take on high school students reading the American classic, “The Crucible”.
Jonathan Wheeler, theater department support professional, said “Students studying ‘The Crucible’ begin to question whether John Proctor is the protagonist. It is a comedy that still addresses serious topics.”
According to the notice released by the department, “This play tackles the complexities of power, privilege and truth in a modern classroom, with sharp wit and compelling drama that challenges historical narratives.”
If any student was unable to or did not know about picking up scripts in the Spectrum Theater over winter break, they are able to email Wheeler at jonathanwheeler@grcc.edu about details regarding a script.
There are nine roles available and all students are welcome to audition regardless of their major or experience in theater.
