Grand Rapids Rise, the city’s professional women’s volleyball team, is inviting college students to enjoy high-level competition on Thursday nights for an affordable price.
Founded in 2024, Rise is a pro volleyball team representing Grand Rapids within Major League Volleyball. They are entering their third season and currently stand with a 2-6 record. College Thursday events will take place at Van Andel Arena, where Rise plays their home games.
“We play an exciting season of 14 home matches at Van Andel Arena, bringing high-level volleyball action to the community and creating fun, engaging experiences for fans of all ages,” wrote Maddie Ludwig, the Group Events Account Representative for Rise, in an email to The Collegiate.
Ludwig gave insight into what students can expect from Rise college nights. “Students can enjoy discounted tickets to their own section, which gets you up close with our live DJ during the game!” wrote Ludwig.
When asked the reason for College Thursday, Ludwig explained, “One of the main purposes of this initiative is to help bring new energy to the game with our student section, as they help cheer on the team!”
Students can enjoy a night off to watch volleyball and hang out,all while cheering on and supporting their very own professional women’s volleyball team.
“We love to get local colleges involved with the Rise since it’s right in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. We want to make attending games affordable for everyone – college students included,” stated Ludwig. “It’s a fun way for students to connect, support their local team, and enjoy a great night out.”
Grand Rapids Rise will play against the San Diego Mojo for this week’s College Thursday on Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Van Andel Arena. Students can purchase discounted tickets on their website, using their student email to make the purchase. Just remember to sign in with your student email when purchasing tickets. The last College Thursday will take place on Feb. 26, when the Rise will face off San Diego Mojo once again.
“College Thursdays are fun for every kind of student! Whether you’re a die-hard fan, or you’ve only experienced volleyball at Grand Haven on a casual beach day, this is a whole new level of entertainment that you won’t want to miss out on,” wrote Ludwig.
