On Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 1:54 p.m., officers were dispatched on a report of two students having sex in the single stall bathroom on the east side of the Applied Technology Center’s first floor.
The officers made contact with the student who made the complaint. The student told the officers that she had attempted to use the bathroom. However, upon opening the bathroom door, she saw two individuals engaged in sexual activities while seated on the toilet and completely naked. The student quickly shut the door and swiftly went to inform a professor. The student later gave a GRCC Police officer a description of the two suspects.
The officers were able to locate the female by using campus surveillance cameras, which showed the two entering the bathroom one after the other. The female student confessed to the deed and spelled out the male’s name, but said she did not have his number as they communicated on a messaging app, with the woman showing the officer the message, which read “meet me by the red doors,” with the woman confirming she was a student, and assumed that the male was as well. The officers informed her that the incident would be referred to student conduct and thanked the student for her honesty, but told her that it was out of their control what happened next.
The officers determined that the male was not a student via the PeopleSoft program and confirmed he was a former student via the Atrium program. The officer eventually made contact with the male the next day at noon, when the man readily admitted to the act, telling the officer he was not an active student and had already graduated. The officer advised the man that Grand Rapids Community College would prefer that he not have sex on GRCC property. The man said he understood.
