As Fall approaches and the weather gets colder Grand Rapids Community College is here to help out with keeping people’s feet warm.
During October, the Michigan Ace Women’s Network at GRCC is hosting a sock drive that celebrates the community by giving back to those in need.
“Without access to regular laundry services, the homeless are often forced to wear dirty or wet socks if any socks at all,” said Sophia Brewer, Serials & Collection Development Librarian here at GRCC. “We wanted to impact the homeless population in our community during the winter months.”
“MI-ACE Women’s Network will be donating the socks to Degage Ministries and other organizations that support the homeless population,” Brewer said.
Over 300 pairs of new white socks have already been donated to this organization. ”I have in my possession over 300 pairs of new white socks brought in by people who work here at GRCC.” Brewer added.
If you are interested in donating a pair of new white socks to help out someone in need they will be collecting until Oct 31.

The women behind it all are making a difference for the homeless one sock a a time.
“The MI ACE Women’s Network mission is to support, remain, identify and develop leadership among women,” Brewer said. “This year we will be focusing on leadership and service. We believe that regardless of what your position is here, as a group we want to offer support and foster leadership skills and service.”
