On Wednesday, April 1, Grand Rapids Community College’s Student Alliance organized a curb-side food drive – following social distancing guidelines. Six volunteers distributed various food and produce items to a total of 46 students, including 12 loaner laptops, according to Lina Blair, GRCC Director of Student Life Affairs.

“This week (we) distributed non-perishables, milk, and fresh produce like grapes, onions, cantaloupe, cucumbers, etcetera,” Blair said.
Orders with new food to be handed out in future drives will not arrive until April 14.
“Since the response to our previous food distributions have been so positive, we have gone through almost all of our food,” Blair adds.

Despite the setbacks with non-perishable items being in high demand during this time of self-quarantine, the next food drive will take place on April 14.
Student Alliance plans on hosting more drive-by food drives, and more information can be found here.
