Are you interested in Grand Rapids Community College Police Academy but don’t know much about it?
GRCC’s Police Academy is going to have an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about it or potentially joining their team to join the Criminal Justice Department virtual information session on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at noon to learn all about it!
The virtual session will cover MCOLES – Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards requirements, GRCC prerequisites, application requirements and timelines, as well as program costs and schedules.
GRCC offers two police academies. One is for a credit program in which students complete their associate’s degree. The other is an accelerated non-credit program for those who already have a degree or for those who are employed by a police agency.
Both academies use the same MCOLES-mandated curriculum for basic police training.
Basic police training includes tactics and skills such as firearms, emergency vehicle operations, subject control, along with knowledge and application of Michigan Laws, investigative procedures, traffic enforcement, first aid and physical fitness.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates take a state licensing exam. Those who pass are then licensed and officially named police officers in the state of Michigan and are able to work for any local, city or county police agency.
The virtual information session has no limit on how many people can join and is open to anyone interested.
