Trespassing at Ender Hall
On July 23, at 5:25 p.m. a Grand Rapids Community College police officer was dispatched to Ender Hall on Fulton Street on a report of a suspicious person. Upon arriving the officer located the man on the southeast corner stairwell on the lower level of the parking ramp. When asked what he was doing, the man stated he was resting and charging his devices. Upon being asked if he was a student, faculty or attempting to become a student the man stated he used to be a student though admitted he currently wasn’t one. The officer then told him unless he was a student, faculty or trying to become a student then had to leave which the man did.
Housing box graffitied at Bostwick Avenue
On July 23, at 6:07 p.m. an officer was on his normal patrol when he noticed graffiti on Bostwick Avenue, the graffiti was located on the gate arm control housing box for G2 parking and resembled an eye drawn in black ink. The officer reviewed the footage only to find the cameras failed to capture any footage of the incident.
Trespasser at Applied Technology Center
On Wednesday, July 24, at around 6 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Applied Technology Center building at Fountain Street due to a report of a trespasser possibly checking cars. Upon arriving at the scene one of the officers made contact with the trespasser who was walking with his right hand in his shorts pocket. The officer immediately asked the man to remove the hand from his pocket which he at first refused to do, then the man attempted to walk past the officer who detainted them and put them in handcuffs due to the strange circumstances. The trespasser told the officer he didn’t remember how he got into the parking structure and was struggling to find his way out, he also had a recent abrasion on his bottom lip and stated he fell into one of the large concrete support pillars in the parking area and split his lip which had been bleeding earlier. A file check showed he had a served personal protection order but no outstanding warrants or anything to that effect as a result the officer let him off with a warning.
Shirtless man ejected from Science Building
On July 26, at 1:30 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the GRCC science building on a report of a naked trespasser sleeping in the northwest corner lounge on the 5th floor. Upon arriving the officer noticed a male with no shirt and a blanket covering the lower half of his body laying down on the loveseat in the northwest lounge. The person had two large trash bags, food and all his belongings from his backpack sprawled everywhere. The officer asked the man what he was doing with the man stating he was resting and wanted to organize his belongings. The officer told him if he wasn’t a student then he would have to pack his belongings and leave. The officer ran the trespasser’s name which came back clean and the man walked off without incident.
Trespasser causes problems at Lyon Street
On July 29, at 3:16 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Early Childhood Learning Lab on Lyon Street on a report of someone sleeping on the north side steps of the lab. When the officer arrived on scene he noticed a female lying on the bench in the northeast corner of the ECLL. The officer asked her what she was doing to which the female stated she needed somewhere to rest and hide as she stated she was hiding from some people who threatened her at Veterans Park. The officer advised her that they could contact GRPD for her since the incident happened outside GRCC PD jurisdiction. She started to cry and became frantic and angry stating she had a heart issue. The officer then asked if she wanted EMS to come check her out, she said she could walk to Corewell ER herself. The officer then advised her a second time to make a report regarding the incident at Veterans Park. The officer then asked if she was staff or student, she said she was but not currently enrolled. The officer then advised her she could not be on campus if she wasn’t enrolled or staff. She began to walk away from the officer as he was talking and asked for her name though eventually the officer managed to get it. A background check revealed a mental health order, the officer then decided to give the woman a verbal warning for trespassing to which the woman responded by giving the officer the finger as she walked off.
