It’s that time of the semester, and many students may begin to feel themselves fall into a mid-semester slump. Burnout is real. Students who want a break from their daily schedule full of class, homework, and studying can look forward to the Mid-Terms Relaxer, which offers a variety of ways to relax. Hosted by Retention Services, the event is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the lounge on the third floor of the Student Center.
While there are an assortment of ways to relax and decompress, the Mid-Terms Relaxer is meant to encourage students to take a mental break.
Sondra Davis, Support Professional and Retention Services, stated in an email, “Because some students decompress by zoning out while working on a craft, and others relax by feeling more prepared, Retention Services is partnering with Academic Advising to offer both experiences.”
Some students who feel stressed about upcoming exams and due dates value experiences that are supportive mentally and emotionally, not just academically. Working on a craft can give students just the kind of mental recess that they need.
“We are providing a creative escape for students looking to disconnect and recharge,” Davis stated. “Our event will feature a fully stocked art station. Attendees can paint on provided mini canvases or canvas tote bags.”
Additionally, the event is environmentally friendly. Davis shared, “In a sustainable twist, students are also encouraged to ‘Bring Your Own Canvas.’ We encourage them to customize personal items such as jeans, denim jackets, shoes, or purses.”
For those who are more academically focused, they can look forward to the services of Academic Advising.
Davis wrote, “Mid-Term preparation is available for students who prefer to tackle their stress head-on. Academic Advising will host three targeted, 15-minute “Mini-Workshops” designed to fit into a busy study schedule.”
The first workshop will be at 12:30 p.m. and discuss Healthy Habits. 1:30 p.m. acknowledges Test Taking & Test Taking Anxiety. To finish the workshops at 2:30 p.m., students can learn more in a study skills workshop.
“Students are encouraged to drop in, stay as long as they want, and take advantage of the resources provided to help them navigate the midterm season successfully,” Davis shared.
Regardless of what needs a student may have, the Mid-Terms relaxer is available to provide services to navigate studying and a way to step back from the constant school grind.
“Whether students need to paint a tote bag to get their mind off things, or learn how to manage test anxiety, there is a space for them at our event,” she stated.
