Returning from mid-semester break, there are 25 events happening on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College in the week of March 9 – 14. From waffles to therapy dogs, read on to find out what will be helping the Raiders get back in the academic mood this week: 

Monday, March 9: 

7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club will be having a fundraising event on the fourth floor of Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, selling hot chocolate to raise money to attend the American Model United Nations Conference happening in Chicago next semester. 

11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Center for Career and Professional Readiness is hosting “How to Prep for a Job Fair” in room 275 of RJF Hall, a workshop teaching students how to write resumes and overall prepare for a job fair. There will be free stuff at this event. 

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being is hosting “Escape to Self: A Road Map for Finding Inner Peace,” as part of their Well-Being Workshop series, sharing information on how to improve mental, physical, and social well-being at the Raider Grill (room 205 of the Student Center). There will be free food and parking passes. 

5 to 6 p.m. Future Tech is hosting an information session on what resources the department has to offer. Students can attend the information session either in person or virtually in the Applied Technology Center, room 231, or via Zoom. The link to join the Zoom meeting can be found on Raider Connect. RSVP is encouraged but not required for the event. 

Tuesday, March 10: 

7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club will be hosting another fundraising event on the fourth floor of RJF Hall, again selling hot chocolate to raise money to attend the American Model United Nations Conference happening in Chicago next semester. 

9 to 11 a.m. Student Government is having a “Welcome Back Raiders Waffles” pop-up on the fourth floor of RJF Hall. There will be free food at this event. 

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rotaract of Grand Rapids Community College will be hosting a “Kids’ Food Basket Bag Decorating” event at Raider Grill, room 205 of the Student Center. Decorate a bag to brighten a day.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Center for Career and Professional Readiness is having a small job fair at RJF Hall, floor G2. About 10 different employers will be in attendance, in search of students to fill job positions opened for the summer. There will be free items at the event. 

2 to 3 p.m. The Center for Student Life and Leadership is having a workshop called “The Leadership Edge: Stand out for Transfer, Internships, & more” in the Student Life Hub of the Student Center. This workshop will help students to build leadership skills and understand why they matter. 

4 to 5 p.m. Display Magazine will be having a student reading session at the Language Arts Tutoring and Learning Center, in room 501 of Cook Hall. Light refreshments will be provided. 

4:30 to 5:30 p.m. “Staying RootED!” is meeting on the fifth floor of Calkin’s Science Center in the greenhouse. They will begin the process of preparing plants for the summer, including planting seeds in soil. 

4:30 to 6:30 p.m. “Stand Out” will host their weekly meeting in room 219 of the ATC. 

Wednesday, March 11:

7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club will be hosting its third fundraising event of the week on the third floor of the Student Center, selling hot chocolate to raise money to attend the American Model United Nations Conference happening in Chicago next semester. 

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Financial Aid is hosting “Financial Aid Frenzy – Main Campus,” where students can get hands-on support from the Financial Aid department in completing their FAFSA for the 2026-2027 school year. Work alone or in a group on each step of the FAFSA, and learn about scholarships and payment options. The event will be held in RJF 210. There will be free stuff for students.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club is having its weekly meeting in room 206 of Sneden Hall at the Devos Campus. 

2 to 4 p.m. Campus Activities Board is hosting “Mid-Semester Paws for a Break” with West Michigan Therapy Dogs, a non-profit volunteer group providing animal-assisted activities to various groups around West Michigan. Students can stop by room 234 of the Student Center to destress with the help of therapy dogs. 

5 to 6 p.m. FutureTech Careers is hosting “Pathways to Advanced Manufacturing” as a part of their Career Conversations series. Vice President of Manufacturing at The Right Place, Peter Hungerford, will discuss careers in Advanced Manufacturing, along with his personal career path. Students can attend the discussion both in person and online in the Applied Technology Center Auditorium, room 168, or on Zoom. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required, and the lecture is open to the public. 

Thursday, March 12:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Center for Career and Professional Readiness is having a “Liberal Arts Student Focus Group” in room 235 of RJF Hall. Liberal Arts students are encouraged to show up and share what services and resources they would value most. RSVP is required, and free lunch is provided for those in attendance. 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. The International Language Club is having its Spring Sale on the fourth floor of RJF Hall. They are selling hot and iced tea, rice crackers, hard candy, and fortune cookies. Only cash and RaiderCard will be accepted for payment. 

5 to 7 p.m. The Center for Student Life and Leadership is hosting its “2026 Student Leadership Awards” in room 234 of the Student Center. Student Leadership Awards happen annually to recognize outstanding student contributions to the GRCC community. RSVP is required, and there will be free food at the event. 

5 to 7 p.m. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being will be showing a sports-themed movie to celebrate March Madness as part of their “Chill and Connect” event series. The event will be at Raider Grill, room 205 of the Student Center. Free popcorn will be provided. 

Friday, March 13: 

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Financial Aid is holding “FAFSA Fridays” in RJF room 210. Get support from Financial Aid in filling out the 2026-2027 FAFSA. 

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Artist Rafael Rosado is coming to GRCC as part of the Visual Arts department’s “Visual Artist Series”. Rosado is an award-winning author and illustrator who has worked on projects like Scooby Doo, Batman, and Curious George. Rosado also illustrated and co-created the bestselling graphic novel trilogy Giants Beware!, Dragons Beware!, and Monsters Beware!. Rosado will be giving a presentation about his work in the ATC auditorium, room 168. 

3 to 5 p.m. Raider Nation Gaming is holding its weekly meeting in room 218 of Cook Hall. Show up to play games of all sorts– from video games to board games– and hang out with fellow gamers. 

3:30 to 4 p.m. Cinema Society is meeting in room 219 of the ATC. Show up to discuss film in all of its glory, from the film itself to scripts, costumes, and historical and cultural contexts of films.
