On March 12, student leaders, community members, and Grand Rapids Community College staff and faculty will come together in room 234 of the Student Center to honor student leadership in their merit and accomplishments for the 2025-2026 school year.
Valerie Hargraves, the director of Student Life and Leadership, stated in an email that one can expect, “A celebration of student accomplishments throughout the year and some good food! It’s an award ceremony, so nominees and winners are announced throughout the event.”
The awards being given out can be found on the GRCC Student Leadership Banquet page and are generally based on academic excellence and campus engagement.
Hargraves explained that winners of the awards have varying prizes: “Some get certificates, some get awards, some that meet criteria may also get a scholarship in addition to their award,” Hargraves said.
Some may wonder why events honoring student leaders are important. Hargraves explained, “I think it helps leaders be able to recognize for themselves the impact they have and encourages them to keep moving forward, and inspires others to see a leader within themselves too.”
The final day to RSVP to the event has passed, but Hargraves shared, “If you know a nominee, congratulate them!”
