With fall here, Grand Rapids Community College is getting ready for its annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 24. Hosted by the Campus Activities Board (CAB), the event will feature fall-themed activities, carnival games, food, and entertainment for GRCC students and the surrounding community.

Fall Fest is a chance for students to take a break from classes and enjoy some fall activities while bringing the campus community together.

CAB President Davina Mancilla said the goal is to make the event something students and community members enjoy attending.

“I really hope students walk away feeling like it was worth their time to come,” Mancilla said. She added that seeing people having fun at the activities would make the event a success.

There will be plenty to do at Fall Fest, including pumpkin painting, carnival games, inflatables, music from a live DJ, and face painting or temporary tattoos from a visiting body artist.

Mancilla said she is especially looking forward to the inflatables and a duck-themed carnival game.

“I’m personally most excited for the inflatables,” she said. “We will have a duck carnival game that utilizes an inflatable that I’m really looking forward to.”

Along with the activities, attendees can enjoy free chili, boneless wings and cider. The event gives people a chance to enjoy some classic fall food while spending time with friends and family.

Fall Fest is not just for GRCC students. The event is open to everyone, including families and other members of the West Michigan community. Since it takes place on a Saturday, students who have busy schedules during the week also have an opportunity to attend.

Mancilla said opening the event to the public is one of the things that makes Fall Fest special.

“This event is unique in that it is open to the whole community,” she said. “You never know who may come and later gain interest in GRCC and enroll as students.”

Admission is free, and attendees do not need to register ahead of time. GRCC students should bring their student IDs to check in. This helps CAB keep track of student attendance, which can be useful when planning future events and requesting funding.
